Empties: October 2013

Reading has always been one of my hobbies, couple that with an interest in beauty products and you have someone who trawls the Internet in search of beauty tips/information. I enjoy looking and reading up on all things beauty related- new releases, cleansing methods, ingredients used.. but apart from that I also enjoy going through what other beauty addicts use and what works for them.

Never did I think I would be able to get through a year of documenting what I've used but here I am, with only 2 more months to go! I started this for personal reasons (mainly to force myself to clear out old products and make sure I was religiously applying skin/bodycare) and recently I met a lovely lady (Hi, Victoria!) at a beauty event who told me she liked my Empties posts. I was stunned and at a loss for words- thank you for making my day!

Trial sizes
1. Melvita Apicosma Body Balm
2. SK-II Facial Treatment Cleansing Gel
3. Clarins Extra-Comfort Toning Lotion
4. Clarins Toning Lotion with Camomile
5. L'Occitane Body Lotion with Essential Oil
6. Clarins Bust Beauty Extra-Lift Gel

Full sizes
7. Clarins Cleansing Milk with Gentian (Oily/Combination Skin) 200ml My last bottle of cleansing milk, I've come to realize I much prefer cleansing oils as my first cleansing step. With oils I can actually feel and see the little oil seeds/dead skin being unclogged as I massage it in. So gratifying.

8. Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash 500ml I used this as a body wash- for the size, it really is value for money and lasted me many months. Not too keen on the scent though. Much prefer the geranium variation.

9. Melvita Anti-Ageing Fluid (for Men) 50ml Not one to turn away products unless I really can't use it, I used this mainly on my arms and body at night. It's a light fluid with a nice scent- not too manly or sharp.

10. Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil 30ml My 5th bottle! I will most definitely continue purchasing this. LOVE!

  1. Hi Xen. Thanks for the mention on your blog :). I did not know I made your day when I said I liked your empties post. LOL. I guess I like it because it is one of the few blogs that display such a wide range of empties post plus I like ogling at your items. Hahaha.

Any recommendation for a good toner from Clarins? My skin is combination but the Kanebo facialist that I went to see recently did an analysis on my skin which stated my skin is normal. LOL. I wonder how that happened.

    1. Hi Victoria! Thank you again for your kind words of encouragement :D You really did make my day! haha

I've tried all the Clarins toners, all their toners have a nice "natural" scent and are alcohol free. I too have combination skin which is turning normal (must be the adequate hydration!! hehe) so I started with the Iris toner (for Oily/Combination), then moved on the Camomile (Normal/Dry) but now I am loving the Extra-Comfort one for my sensitive skin. It leaves my skin soft and there is no residue at all. To be honest, I like them all!

I never really trust beauticians on analysing my skin, I've lost count how many times they were wrong even when I insisted I couldnt use oil-free/products for oily-skin(too drying) they pushed those facials/skincare unto me. Only a very rare few got my skin type right. My skin is much happier now that I've learnt to understand it better. If your skin is producing a lot of oil but the surface is still rough-ish and tight/dry then it possibly is dehydrated (in my case at least haha). Maybe your skin is normal, and the slight oil production is from walking in/out of cool/warm spots.. I know my T-zone gets a bit oily when I walk out of the office for lunch but if I stay in, its fine lol.

I would suggest to visit a few more counters and see what other beauticians have to say about your skin type (:

    2. Hi Xen. Thanks for replying. Actually, in the last 1 year, I have tried 3 different facialist which I found on Groupon. The first was Thalgo products from Serenity Skin in Amcorp Mall. The facialist was good and her hands were like that of my former facialist. There was some hard-selling but that was due to my interest in the package they had to offer. I did not sign up for one as it was too expensive.

The second facialist was also using Thalgo products from Icone Beaute, Publika. I remember you said you had a horrible experience with them in your blog? I would not call my experience lousy but she did not have gentle hands and pressed out my blackheads with a lot of force. I also did not like the fact she was quite vigorous in her hard-selling. I am glad I did not sign up with her. LOL.

The final one which I had last month is the best. A nice girl from Kanebo who had good hands and I actually dozed off during the facial session. She did not do any hard-selling at all and I had to ask her if Kanebo had any package on offer. Hahaha. The package seems reasonable - RM791 for 7 sessions but I did not sign up due to budget constrain. She did say that my skin is dehydrated but my oil control is good. So I guess I just need to step up on the hydration :-)
