Christmas 2013

There are many things that money can buy, but the most important and essential things in life can never be bought. Feeling thankful and blessed.

Everything in my life in on point, and while I've had rough patches earlier this year.. alls well, ends well. Time will indeed bring to light everything.

My bond now with the people who I love and care for is stronger than ever, and I say this with great happiness.

Not everyone is genuinely happy with life and appreciates all that is being offered in life, and that is quite a shame. For we will only be at this place and in this lifetime once, so why not fill your mind with positive and encouraging thoughts instead.

"One who speaks ill of others to you, will speak ill of you."

I can't change the past, but what I do in the present and future is still within my control.

Thank you (all) for your kind wishes and gifts this year..

I have 3 Acca Kappa brushes, and this Protection brush is my 4th! They all have different purposes and I really love them. There is one more on my wishlist before my collection is complete!

ZARA travel wallet, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb and Kerastase Hair Masque. All of which I love and are things I would actually use regularly.

A week late, but wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and an awesome (upcoming) new year!

2013 >> 2014

This year, I've learnt so much about myself and also many lessons in life.

The only thing constant in life is change, and it is inevitable.

Patience has never been one of my strongest points; what I understood or grasped quickly, I also expected others to do so. However in life, expectations only lead to frustration and ultimately disappointment or a disagreement. I used to think people would treat me the same way I treated them, but that is also a form of expectation. And to people who did not treat me too kindly, I would return the favor. That never made me happy, treating people the way they treated me.. so I've decided to just live my life the kind way.

There was a point in my life when I was non-chalant, light-hearted.. even when facing a difficult friend, but along the way the positive energy disappeared, and it turned mean and so filled with negative energy. It had been going on for years, but I only wrote about it months ago, and I'm happy to say that I'm back to my old "see-the-best-in-people" self.

Everyone has their insecurities, battling their own demons.. what they do and how they treat me isn't necessarily a reflection of how I treat them. It is merely their own perception of things and not of the person in essence.

I've rekindled really old friendships, one whom I've come to know has been holding back a great deal of regret and pain from things they had done years ago. Even when the rest of the world have moved on, if you never forgive yourself.. you will never be happy with what you are/have now. I used to find this friend so insensitive and overly-critical of everything and everyone but in hindsight, it was actually a ruse to cover their own insecurities. I was so surprised to find the tone of sarcasm and rudeness all gone, and replaced with kind words. People really do change, even the ones you thought would never.

I have learnt to pay attention to what people do and how they act; instead of what they say or tell me. Less lip service, more action please. Also, what people think of me, is none of my business. Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions.

I do have a confession to make, which has been bugging me for the past year or so..
Dear XXX, what I (or rather, we) did those many years ago still traumatizes you a little until today, and you never knew it was us. I am unable to apologize without complicating the other person involved but if you've already received an apology from that end, I would like to extend mine here. Do not mistaken my inability to apologize in person for cowardice. It happened so long ago, plus given today's circumstances.. there is no reason to bring it up. Just me clearing a guilty conscience.

I will be starting 2014 on a fresh slate, one filled with kindness (or so I hope!) and loving thoughts.

Work wise, it has been one of the most challenging but rewarding experiences.. I was thrown into the deep end of the pool, left to find my own way out, and I am glad to say that things are going excellent for me. I'll just say that this Christmas, I have been given theeeee bestttttt present.

Could not have asked for a better year, I've did most of what I set out to do for 2013, read more, spend less.. I was not able to do any service work this year but I would like to make time for that in 2014.

Hopefully everyone did their best in 2013, and let's make 2014 even better!

Empties: November 2013

It's the time of the month again.. and just 30 more days till 2014 arrives!!

1. Melvita Young Skin Facial Scrub, 100ml I quite like the scent of this scrub, it isn't harsh and I could still feel a difference in my skin after rinsing it off. Not bad, but I prefer the Clarins scrub still.
2. L'Occitane Volumizing Shampoo, 500ml I have neither fine nor normal hair, if anything my hair is thick and my roots get a little flat as my scalp is a little oily. However, this works great and though it doesnt leave my hair silky smooth, it does give my hair some volume and is soft. Definitely repurchasing the refill.
3. sukin Foaming Facial Cleanser, 200ml
4. Clarins Multi-Active Skin Renewal Serum, 30ml
5. SK-II Advanced Eye treatment Film, 15ml
6. Clarins UV Plus HP Tinted Beige SPF40 Sunscreen, 10ml I LOVE this sunscreen, during the weekends when I am not using my BB cream I usually just put this on for light coverage. It evens out any redness I have and even covers my light acne scars. Definitely repurchasing.

7. Aesop Primrose Facial Cleansing Masque, 100ml
8. sukin Natural Deodorant, 125ml
9. L'Occitane Magnolia & Mure Shower Gel, 175ml The scent was a tad strong, so I used it as a handwash instead.
10. Melvita Apicosma Extra-rich hand cream, 30ml

Happy Birthday, Mama!

To my dearest Mama, thank you for everything..

Celebrated with a sumptuous dinner at Jake's Charbroiled Steaks (Medan Damansara), and back home for some cake.

My sister and I had prepared a gift and though it was her birthday, my Mama actually had gifts for all of us as well.

Christmas came early!

Happy Birthday, Mama.. I used to cause you much heartache when I was younger- being so "rebellious" and refusing to do so just because I am told to (though I still am, but way less resistant). I understand in the recent years that you do and say things for us out of concern and love, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing me to this world.

I love you!!

Weekend away...

This weekend, I shall be away for a much needed girls' trip and partly for a Bachelorette Party as well.

I've had the chance to meet and keep amazing people in my life, and I am so grateful for all they have done for and taught me.

Will be flying off early tomorrow!!

NARS Malaysia Opens!

NARS Malaysia is officially open in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur! Took them a while, but better late than never right?

I had my face touched and worked on by their international lead makeup artist- Jane Richardson *swoon* As we were introduced, immediately I felt at ease with her- there is no air at all about her; and her work is really amazing. It took her 5 minutes to show me a new way to apply eyeshadow!! I rarely use eyeshadows as I have mono-lids and half the time the colour is eaten by my thick eyeliner. She took her time speaking to each guest, and even coming around at least a few times to chat and give more tips.

It was a really enjoyable afternoon, speaking to her and watching her work the room, giving myself and other guests personal advice. I've had many makeovers before but today's session with Ms Richardson took it to a new level. She really does love her work and it shows. So lucky to have had a chance to meet her. Thank you, Yi Leng for the invite!!

Was eyeing the Sheer Glow Foundation, Gel Mask, and Concealer before I visited today.. but it was a different story when I started playing with the collection. I did not expect to fall in love with the Velvet Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red (Note: I spent the last half hour searching the Internet for it, as it was released as a Fall LE! NEED IT!!!).

Many things were already out of stock, so I only left with the NARSskin Multi-Action Hydrating Toner (MYR125, 200ml) which is similar to the CLARINS Exfoliating Toner. This product is formulated without parabens, alcohol, oil and synthetic fragrance- right up my alley. Am keen to pick up the Gel-Mask once I'm finished with the L'Occitane Angelica Gel-Mask.

Will be using this tonight!

After using this as a nail accent for my previous manicure, I just had to do a full one with it.

Empties: October 2013

Reading has always been one of my hobbies, couple that with an interest in beauty products and you have someone who trawls the Internet in search of beauty tips/information. I enjoy looking and reading up on all things beauty related- new releases, cleansing methods, ingredients used.. but apart from that I also enjoy going through what other beauty addicts use and what works for them.

Never did I think I would be able to get through a year of documenting what I've used but here I am, with only 2 more months to go! I started this for personal reasons (mainly to force myself to clear out old products and make sure I was religiously applying skin/bodycare) and recently I met a lovely lady (Hi, Victoria!) at a beauty event who told me she liked my Empties posts. I was stunned and at a loss for words- thank you for making my day!

Trial sizes
1. Melvita Apicosma Body Balm
2. SK-II Facial Treatment Cleansing Gel
3. Clarins Extra-Comfort Toning Lotion
4. Clarins Toning Lotion with Camomile
5. L'Occitane Body Lotion with Essential Oil
6. Clarins Bust Beauty Extra-Lift Gel

Full sizes
7. Clarins Cleansing Milk with Gentian (Oily/Combination Skin) 200ml My last bottle of cleansing milk, I've come to realize I much prefer cleansing oils as my first cleansing step. With oils I can actually feel and see the little oil seeds/dead skin being unclogged as I massage it in. So gratifying.

8. Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Wash 500ml I used this as a body wash- for the size, it really is value for money and lasted me many months. Not too keen on the scent though. Much prefer the geranium variation.

9. Melvita Anti-Ageing Fluid (for Men) 50ml Not one to turn away products unless I really can't use it, I used this mainly on my arms and body at night. It's a light fluid with a nice scent- not too manly or sharp.

10. Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil 30ml My 5th bottle! I will most definitely continue purchasing this. LOVE!

Late night thoughts...

Question 1: If you can't look someone you know in the eye to make any form of conversation, is it because you feel guilty or- you just don't want to be around them?

Question 2: Assuming you don't want to talk to nor be around this person, would you still consider yourselves as friends?

Question 3: If after an argument, saying your Sorrys and I Forgive Yous, but you find yourself having difficulty putting your ego aside to move on, did you actually mean those words then?

I won't regret anything that I have said and did, because I did it with all my heart. There is no right or wrong way but there's always the kind way.

There are many lessons in life, and for me this may well be one of the greatest.

Someone once asked me, "I don't understand why the whole group of friends would hang out at the cafe outside A's house but not call A when A is home. What kind of friends are they?".

I didn't have an answer then but I do know A is a nice person, great personality and no one would say otherwise about A. Those friends had no obvious reason to do what they did.. So I concluded that the issue lay with the group of friends, not A.

So I have an answer to you now, if you are still reading: Exactly the kind of friend you are.

Too old for drama and animosity, don't you think?

Suggestion 1: Feeling left out of plans? Try making an effort instead of throwing yourself a pity party.

Suggestion 2: Making an effort but getting rejected many times? Respect yourself enough to walk away. Stop talking to yourself- communication isn't a one way street.

I await the day I re-read this post and find the words to still hold their meaning.

*I felt a shift inside today, couldn't pin point what it was but I felt elated, warm and fuzzy like a weight has been lifted and something good is taking place.*

Unexpected gifts!

This was dropped off for me tonight..

So many beauty products, thank you Claire for being so generous and sharing your goodies!

All the lippies above were gifted by the same girl. I've only opened two and they are both very pigmented and flattering on me. Excellent additions to my lipstick army as I've banned myself from purchasing any more colours.

Thank you!

Kitchen: Freshhhhhh

Fresh produce! The colours are enough to make my tummy growl...

Veggies from the market, rosemary from our garden, and fish caught by my Papa!

Been eating fish on the regular as Papa has rekindled with his fishing rod.. it's a win-win situation for us. Oven baked barramundi with butter and lemon; and fried barramundi garnished with shallots, garlic, some ginger and soy. YUM!

The potatoes were delicious, the best I've ever eaten and made using Jamie Oliver's method here. Not too fussed with the flavour combos he mentioned, I omitted vinegar and just used olive oil, butter, some salt and rosemary.

So good.

Nails: CHANEL Organdy #165 & StyleNanda 3CE #GT15

Realized I haven't been painting my nails as often as I should, will make an effort to do my nails every weekend whilst watching The Walking Dead (so hooked on this series atm!!).

First time putting Organdy on, 2 coats and glitter using Stylenanda 3 Concept Eyes. Base by Etude House, top coat by Seche Vite.

Organdy reminds me of a bubblegum pink and also the Chanel Joues Contraste in Ultra Rose. The 3CE glitter was a gift, I'd probably try layering it more the next time. I repurchased Seche Vite; though it gets gloopy faster than other brands, it dries super fast and keeps my manicure fresh and glossy longer than any other I've used. Even my pedicure is still glossy after 2 weeks.

More swatches of Chanel Organdy here.

Current Beauty Loves: October

In love with these beauty buys from the past months..

Read about the Chanel Sheer Illuminating Base on Jennypurr's Blog and it is perfect for toning down any redness (both scars and fresh blemishes), doesn't clog pores, doesn't irritate my sensitive skin nor cause my eyes to tear. I have issues with many face primers, most scents bring tears to my eyes and leave a whitish cast. Used with the Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch (as Jennypurr does) the end result is glowy, almost flawless skin which lasts.

I also got myself the much loved Shiseido Perfect Foundation Brush, and it really makes a huge difference in application of liquid foundation. You can use it with dry or liquid but I find it doesn't work so well with thicker formulas (creams, BB creams, waterproof makeup..) but with runnier foundations it really is perfect. Read the review at My Women's Stuff which piqued my interest.

In skincare news, I have incorporated REN into my regime and so far, so good. I also picked up the Invisible Pores mask (not pictured) from a recent REN event at Ken's Apothecary and unlike many clay masks, it doesn't dry the skin out. LOVE.

If you haven't heard of Hydraluron by now, you should Google it or read up on Caroline Hirons' Blog. Picked these up while I was in Melbourne and ZERO regrets. I think I have found my perfect Hydration serum (I use two, my second serum is an anti-ageing one). Haven't tried Snoxin but I have a feeling I won't be disappointed. Hopefully the brand makes it's way to Malaysia soon.

Latest additions to my growing colour wheel. I have a weakness for Chanel polishes. If you are ever stumped on gift ideas for me.. feel free to throw a polish or two my way. A list of colours I'm trying to find are on the right LOL.

Chanel Les Beiges has also made its way into my loved-list. The powder brush is so fine yet firm, it feels so good on the face. Don't take my word for it though, check it out in person.

I got this palette as a GWP at Luxola, an online beauty store which stocks Alpha-H's Liquid Gold (another of my current loves). The colours are so wearable and pretty!

L-R: Honey, Cherish, Lovesick, Sweetheart & Romantic
Fell in love with the Revlon Just Bitten Lipstain "Lovesick". It is flattering on all skin tones and you can keep applying to build the intensity. It even fades to a very nice, even stain. Definitely need more colours.

Rodial Candle sets
Candles are a luxury and essentials in my room, I do have quite a few.. but my favourites are diptyque's baies and the Sohum Vanilla Absolute (it's not Amber Noir but that's the only picture I found). I like it even more that it has a cedar wick! The website says- Sohum wood wick candles are an alternative to our cotton wicked candles, for a clean burn and vivid fragrance. The organic cedar wick makes a soothing crackling sound reminiscent of an open fire. A truly beautiful flame, mingled with our propriety creamy botanical wax blend make this candle a true eco delight for the candle connoisseur.

I'm always on the lookout for nice vanilla candles, do let me know if you love any!
